Hawaii entered the Union in 1959 as the 50th State.
Hawaii adopted its flag in 1816, modified in 1845. The British Union Jack recalls the one presented to King Kamehameha I in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver. The eight stripes are for the principal islands of Hawaii.
