Massachusetts ratified the U.S. Constitution in 1788 as the sixth State.
The Massachusetts state flag was adopted in 1908, and modified in 1971.
The State motto translates "This Hand Opposed to Tyrants Searches, with the Sword, for Peaceful Conditions Under Liberty."
The star indicated Statehood while the Native American was a Massachusetts symbol as early as 1629.
